Christmas Eve Chartist Cave Run
Christmas Eve signifies the annual run up to the Chartist Caves near Trefil. Organised by Sam Standerwick (with help from Mathew Ellis) the run is well attended and this could either be down to the caves being difficult to find for many people or the fact that there’s a communal hip flask to keep you warm.
Christmas Day parkrun
A record 84 runners descended upon a very misty Parc Bryn Bach for this year’s Christmas Day parkrun. Thanks to Lee Aherne for agreeing to run it and finishers who helped with barcode scanning, the run was a success. We even attracted Matt Rees who very nearly beat the course record.
Glynneath 5
There was a good turnout for the Glynneath 5 race on Boxing Day and even though many would have treated themselves to a tipple or two (or many more Dave!) on Christmas Day, there were some fast times recorded for some club members and plenty of awards including 3rd female for Lauren, and 1st Vet 40 for Rachel.
Results
- Lauren Cooper: 3rd Female
- Rachel Burr-Lewis: 1st Vet 40
- Mark Williams: 2nd Vet 60
- Kathleen Jervis: 2nd Vet 60
- Mike Lewis: 1st Vet 75*
- Hayley Jackson and Sam Jackson: 2nd Mother and Son
- Tony Lewis and Rachel Lewis: 2nd Husband and Wife.
* Michael Lewis was given the award but it later transpired that another runner was given the wrong age category and finished ahead of Michael. Also, Stephen Dallow was put in the wrong category and would have placed 2nd in his correct age category.
Christmas Domen Run
Another Christmas tradition is a run up the Domen followed by food and drink in Brewsters. Always well attended despite the tough climbs, this year was a complete contrast to last year’s snow.
Unable to make it this year, Marcus was on hand to take photographs along the way.
parkrun
This week’s PBs were from Ian Line (who I’m sure will be starting his London Marathon training soon) who finished in 20:03, Matthew Crowle who dipped under 24 minutes to finish in 23:56 and Georgina Seed who finished in 26:23.

7 Sins
7 hills in 7 miles including plenty of mud and water didn’t put off Rebeccah Williams. She finished 8th lady and 1st in her age category!
Old Father Time
A small number of club members were in Cardiff on Sunday for the annual Old Father Time race – a vet only race. Rachel Lewis took 2nd Vet 40 and Silver Welsh Masters, Julie Cashell took 3rd Vet 40 and Bronze Welsh Masters, Nicola Jukes took 1st Vet 45 and Gold Welsh Masters and Mike Lewis who took 2nd Vet 75 and Silver Welsh Masters. Thanks to Lou Summers for some of the photos.
