R2T2: Event 1

This is the first of 3 new events being organised by the R2T2 team in 2017. Each event is based at a hall or leisure centre with tea/coffee/cake included in entry fee.

An approximately 10k way-marked route all on forest tracks and paths with no road crossings. The objective is to visit all checkpoints in the correct order in the shortest time. As you progress around the route, there may be opportunities to deviate from the marked route and cut corners – but you must visit and ‘punch’ all checkpoints (controls) in the correct order. The map you are given is very basic and shows the way-marked route (but you don’t have to use it to find your way).

As with the bike event, the event will be SI timed: you are given a ‘dibber’ that when you arrive at a checkpoint you insert into the box to record your time electronically. At the finish the information is downloaded from your ‘dibber’.

The print out you receive will show the time it took for you to get from one timing point to another. This means you’ll be able to compare your times with others over a drink and snack in the venue after. A full list of results will also be printed and displayed on the night.

You can treat the event as a normal run and simply follow the way-marked route. Or for those who want to take their first steps with navigation, you can keep an eye on the map as you go round (and potentially improve on the way marked route).
