Welcome Back Keri
It was great to have Keri back training with the club after being out of the country for the past four months on her last overseas tour in Oman.
Nick Smith in Parliament
Nick Smith was one of the Tellers at the crucial Brexit vote on Tuesday and it was good to see that he was representing the Green Army!
parkrun
There were five PBs to report at parkrun this week with Rob King finishing in 20:10, Nick Webb in 20:24, Ian Davies in 20:56, Nick Osman in 21:04 and Martyn Powell in 24:04.

Beyond the Far Side
Sam Standerwick was in a very damp and muddy Westbury in Wiltshire for this year’s Beyond the Far Side 6 hour race. The 5.4 mile loops consist of lots of mud, chalky mud, slippery muddy slopes, and water but it’s scenic and a very well organised small and friendly event. I ran it last year and the conditions were very similar and was extremely tough. Thanks to Alan Swan for the race photograph.
CF64 Winter Trail
Rebeccah Williams was flying the flag for the Green Army at the muddy CF64 Winter Trail race in Cosmeston.
Winter Speedway
The super-fast Winter Speedway 10K took place on Sunday and featured a field of very fast runners with four men finishing under 30 minutes. Lee Aherne took 1st MV50, Nicola Jukes took 2nd FV40 and Lauren Cooper took third female in an amazing PB time of 36:31 (although chip time says 36:28) with Sam Jackson also scoring a huge PB finishing close to Lauren.
My sources at the race supplied me with this photo (cannot verify its provenance) showing a Mr Aherne having to relieve himself after turning up with the usual couple of minutes to spare 😉
Cardiff Met Grand Prix 2 – Non Thomas/New Year Open
Sarah Lane Coote, Mark Williams, Keri Lyn Jones and Louise Kirby were in Cardiff for the Welsh Masters Indoor Championships. Sarah took a bronze in the 800m, Mark took a bronze in the 1500m, Keri took a silver in the 1500m and Louise took a gold in the 400m.
Sunday Runs
Costa Run 2
The Costa Run returned this weekend with a second 12-ish mile run ending with cake and coffee. Not everyone ran though with some getting a piggyback down a hill to protect their knees!
Alex Marathon Training
The National Running Show
A couple of club members travelled up to Birmingham this weekend to visit the National Running Show and Sam Standerwick wasted no time at all in making a beeline for the White Star Running stand for some mid-morning booze!
Malta Fat Club
The Malta Fat Club continues with most heading in the right direction. The combined lost after three weeks currently stands at 2st 3lb.
Our Latest Recruit
I think Steven would look rather fetching in a Green Army Buff. He’s not the best at following a course accurately but he does excel at distracting the frontrunners!
Got something to say?
