parkrun
With Gwent League XC there were less runners out there so no PBS to report but it was Sharon Newell’s first parkrun after injuring her ankle in August and it was also her 50th parkrun!
Congratulations also to Ros Jones who ran her 50th parkrun at Bryn Bach Park.

Might Contain Nuts Half Marathon
Sarah Jeremiah and Sam Standerwick spent a damp Saturday morning taking part in the Might Contain Nuts half marathon. Sarah was clearly tickled by the race number she was given!
Gwent League: Parc Bryn Bach
Preparation
A lot of hard work has gone into making the fixture at Parc Bryn Bach from the initial application through to course designing by Clive Cooksey and approval, through to many, many mornings, afternoons, evenings, sessions on trains building the maps and the huge number of club members who agreed to help out on the day.
Making The Best Maps
The Day Before
The day before the big race, a crack team of course-setter-uppers (guided by course creator Clive Cooksey) were out marking the course to within an inch of its life to make sure that nobody ended up on the Tump of Stones!
The Big Day
Despite the damp conditions and all that mud, the fixture was a huge success with many cracking performances from the club and some great feedback from other clubs.
There was Giving it Your All
There was the Sprint Finish
There Was Grabbing a Point at the Finish
There was 3rd Place!
There was Losing Your Shoe but Still Finishing
There was the Post-Race Dip in the Lake
Feedback
We’ve had some amazing feedback on Twitter and we even got a retweet from Athletics Weekly!
- Thanks @parcbrynbachrc for hosting what can only be described as a ‘character building’ Gwent League XC fixture today. Superb organisation and a testing course.
- In a word that #gwentleagueXC was burtal (but good fun)!!
- WHAT A RACE!! @bristolwestac ladies braving the knee deep mud, driving rain and howling wind.
- If you’re wondering how underfoot conditions are at Parc Bryn Bach today, here’s your answer!

Many thanks to Parc Bryn Bach for a fab cross country course last Sunday – what I call a ‘proper xc race’! It is my favourite by far for quite a while – please do it again! I loved it – rain, wind, mud and all. Thanks for all your support and organisation that went into making it such a great event. We had near on 100 athletes competing, senior and junior who competed and got stuck in – literally! Jayne Pemble, Westbury Harriers.
