Spartan Race Windsor

On the weekend of October 6/7th, Owen Davies competed in the last Spartan race of the season at Windsor. He competed in the tough 23km Beast race complete with 40 obstacles. He came 7th in his age group which was an excellent result.


Race Awards

Welsh Half Marathon Championships

The Welsh Half Marathon Championships took place at the Cardif Half Marathon on October 7th and four club members came away with medals – Rachel Burr-Lewis Bronze FV40, Jill Matthews Silver FV65, Margrett Monk Bronze FV65 and Lee Aherne Gold MV50. Thanks to Ken Grist for the photos.

Gwent League XC

Nicola Jukes collected Gwent League Cross Country medals at the Llandaff fixture. One medal was for 1st W35 for the 2016-17 season and the other was for 3rd W45 for the 2017/18 season.

Damian Williams also collected his Gwent League Cross Country bronze medal from the 2016/17 season for the v45 category. In addition to Damian and Nicola, Margrett Monk collected a bronze for the 2017/18 season, David Smout collected a silver for the same season as did Lee Aherne who also had a silver.

And to round off, a collection of award plates for Division 3 SM Champions for 2016/17 and the Gilbert Legge Ward (the club showing the most athletic endeavour), Division 2 SM Champions for 2017/18 and WV45 team runner up.

East Wales Club Road Race Championships 2017/18

The club picked up a whopping 8 trophies from the East Wales Clubs Road Race Championship. The trophy cabinet is filling up nicely!

GLCL XC and EW Award Ceremony


Ponty Plod

A little rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the Green Army who ran the 11-mile Ponty Plod on Sunday 14th October. Congratulations to Sian, Rebeccah and Julie for coming away with prizes!


Chase Half 2018

Sam Standerwick was running the White Star Running Chase Half. On completion of the race she received her dinner-plate-sized medal for completing 12 White Star Running half marathons in 12 months (she’d actually completed 18 plus 5 full).


Manchester Half Marathon

James Thomas and Kim Price were in Manchester on Sunday 14th October for the fast and flat Manchester Half Marathon. It was Kim’s second half marathon in 8 days and for the second time in a row she finished in under 1:40!


Hamers in Hannover and Berlin

Steve and Katie Hamer were in Germany on October 13/14th for the Great 25k Berlin Charlottenburg Castle race and whilst there ticked off the Hannover Georgengarten parkrun.

After a break due to the storm last week, 110 runners were at this week’s parkrun with 5 PBs to report – Jamie Howells in 19:31, Huw Steadman in 20:19, Matthew Crowle in 23:58, Sy Boyce in 26:02 and the on fire Nicola Lewis in 26:29.

Krakow, Poland

Julie-Parry Bishop, Rhian White and Kathryn Price were at Krakow parkrun on Saturday. They were in the area to celebrate Kathryn’s birthday.

British Fell Relays 2018

Rhianydd Evans travelled up to Ambleside in the Lake District for the British Fell Relay Championships. Running in  Mynydd Du vest, she completed a tough course complete with navigation!


Gwent Leisure Centre League: Chepstow

The first fixture of the 2017/18 Gwent Leisure Centre League season and we had another great turnout. Obviously attracted by the two water features (unfortunately one could have done with topping up!) club members did always and we finished with 2nd Male/overall (Jamie Parry) and 1st female (Lauren Cooper).

Black Mountain Trail Race

A double water feature at Chepstow couldn’t tempt these club members from running cross country this Sunday, instead they were out running the 9-mile Black Mountain Trail Race in perfect conditions. The women’s team finished third overall and the men sixth.


Great South Run

After completing the Great North Run recently, Katherine Williams was down south for the Great South Run.

Other Races

Sam and Sian Jones had a whistle-stop visit to Stroud for the half marathon before racing back to Chepstow for the award ceremony and Mark and Rebeccah Williams and Sian McGoldrick were in Swansea for the Toigh Runner Epic Trail 10K race.
