Weekly Roundup, August 27th – September 2nd

Perth City to Surf

There was no way that Sian Jones would arrange to take Sam to Australia and NOT also arrange a race for him. Sian and Sam (and Sian’s dad!) competed in the Perth City to Surf Half Marathon and Sam finished in an amazing 21st position and Sian bagged a PB finishing in 01:42!

Machen Mountain Run

The Swifts (joined by Sharon Woods) continued their August Bank Holiday tradition of running the Machen Mountain race which this year was the downhill version. Not sure if that makes it any easier to run!

British Miler’s Club – Exeter

Lauren Cooper and Sam Jackson travelled to Exeter on Tuesday for the British Miler’s Club regional race. Both competed in the 1500m with Sam equalling his PB with 04:50 and Lauren securing a new PB finishing in 04:48.

parkrun

There were 6 PBs to report this week. Stephen Dallow in 21:40, Lucy Atkin-Smith in 25:02, Kam Panesar in 27:41, Nicola Lewis in 27:48 and Johanna Wiles in 28:34. It was also the first time our new Finish Line got an airing with newlyweds Andrew and Amanda Pope crossing the line together – their first parkrun as husband and wife and a PB for Amanda.

In addition, Harry Corfield of Ellesmere Port Running Club, and an ASICS Frontrunner, was the 5,000th unique person to cross the finish line!

Tourists

Sian Price, Burswood parkrun (Perth, Australia)

Whilst Sam was making his way back home to Wales, Sian was scoring a PB of 21:12 at the Burswood parkrun in Perth, Australia.

Stephen Williams (Geraint Thomas Riverfront parkrun)

Roman Run

The weather was playing ball this year and was dry throughout the entire race, not that it made the race any easier! Well done to all that ran the infamous race and those that supported, either at the start, finish or along the way.

Support Crew

In addition to our team of supporters along the way on the tough route, we also had a crack team of cyclists!

Rumbled!

Claire Webb’s paparazzi training is starting to pay dividends! 😉

That Moment When Neil’s Dinner Was in the Dog!

Aberbeeg 5K

After finishing 2nd in last year’s inaugural Aberbeeg 5K, Stephen Williams was determined to take the top spot this year. Then a young whippersnapper called Michael Owen from Newport Harriers rocked up and took 1st place. With an age gap of over 40 years, Stephen was happy to let him win the race this year.

Cardiff 10K

The fast Cardiff 10K took place on Sunday and was well attended by the Green Army. There were a number of PBs including Ethan Sayce, Kim Price and Arelene Osman. I’m sure there were others  but hard to keep up with everyone!

Cardiff 2K

Congratulations to Tom Webb for taking first prize in the Cardiff 2K which took place before the 10K race. He won in a time of 05:54.

Duo of Gurners

It’s been a while since the Gurners Gallery has been updated and despite hardly anyone noticing me today, your Gurner training has been paying off and I only managed to capture two potential Gurners!

The Vicious Wentwood Weasel

Rather the flat tarmac of Cardiff, these Green Army members were more interested in taming the Vicious Wentwood Weasel with it’s hills, fast descents and river crossing.

Milo vs The Weasel!

Judging by this photo it looks like Milo had quite a battle on his hands trying to tame the Vicious Wentwood Weasel!

Awards

Congratulations to Milo for taking 1st in his Age Category, Rachel who was also 1st in her Age Category and Suzanne who was 3rd in her Age Category!

RAF Cosford Spitfire 10K

Steve and Katie Hamer were in RAF Cosford for the Spitfire 10K which involved running on the Museum Airfield with the 5k turnaround point on the runway!

Autumn Wolf Run

Daisy Evans was thrown into the smelly, muddy, deep end this weekend with her first taste of an OCR race in the form of the Autumn Wolf Run. She has Owen Davies to thank for the introduction and despite the smelly mud, she may have a taste for OCR!

Sunday Runs

With the Cardiff Half Marathon (and other races) looming on the horizon, there were a number of long runs this Sunday ranging from 6 to 13 miles.

Man vs Horse Training

Mathew Ellis was getting in his Man vs Horse training early this week with a 5 mile mountain run pursued by his mother on Tolinka.

Cardiff Half Marathon Training

In preparation for October’s Cardiff Half Marathon, Sarah Williams, Maricel Jenkins-Belohorska, Caroline Matthews et al headed out for a long 10 mile run on Tuesday.
