Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone
“For anyone too scared to try something new these photos were taken about 10 minutes apart. This was my first attempt at a 2000m steeplechase. Yes, I fell over, and nearly drowned, more than once. Yes, I had an asthma attack at the end. Yes, it’s probably one of the hardest races I’ve attempted. But it was also one of the most fun, and now I’m Welsh Champ (you can only race those who turn up).
“The moral of the story is that sometimes it pays off to step out of your comfort zone, that’s where the magic happens! Thanks to Richard at Active Therapy for his counselling sessions and magic tape, and to Glenn Sports for the photos.”
Steve Jones 1 Mile Race Series: Race 3
There was a cracking turnout for the last race in the Steve Jones 1 Mile Race Series with some familiar faces from previous races and some new recruits who had took the plunge and stepped outside their comfort zone for the eyeballs-out distance.
Grit and Determination
Series Winners
Congratulations to Sharon Newell for winning the ladies series and to Keri-Lyn Jones and Kath Jervis for winning the FV40 and FV60 categories respectively.
Training Secrets?
London Relay
Our in-house Frontrunner was in London on Friday taking part in the I Move London Relay – a world record attempt over 30 days where 2,500 attempt to run 4,000 miles over 5k and 10k loops. Fudgie was leg number 458.
Owen’s Spartan Challenge
Last weekend Owen Davies competed in the Spartan Race Series at Marston Lodge Farm near Market Harborough. The third out of four races, the 14k obstacle race featured super tough terrain with some horrendous object carries made even more tougher by the brutal heat. He finished 13th in his Age Group again and is determined to crack that top 10!
parkrun
There were four PBs to report at parkrun this week – Ian Line in 20:25, Stephen Dallow 21:51, Kim Price in 22:46 (first time under 23 minutes) and the ever improving Adrian John Markey in 23:58.
Snowdon Race
With conditions far from ideal on the summit of Snowdon, this didn’t deter Rhianydd and Kevin from ascending and descending Wales’ tallest peak. Rhianydd was aiming to complete the circuit in 2 hours and finished in 1h 56m!
Waun Fach Fell Race
Richard Sheehy and Sam Lewis Jones competed in the Waun Fach fell race on Saturday and judging by how broken Sam looks crossing the finishing line it must have been a tough race. Well done to Sam for taking 2nd place.
Pen y Fan Trail Challenge (13 Mile)
Dave Kempton, Claire Sullivan and Helen Williams were hardcore enough to attack the new 13-mile Off the Tarmac Pen y Fan Trail Challenge on Sunday which featured not one but two ascents of Pen y Fan! Well done to all for completing the race and congratulations to Helen Williams for taking 3rd female.
Sorbrook Slog
Hot weather, hills, a bale of hay and some mud meant that the Sorbrook Slog certainly lived up to its name!
The Obstacle
One was just having none of that crap, the other would have jumped over it even it wasn’t part of the course and the third, well, who knows what happened there!
Got something to say?
