Vests On Tour

Steve Jones Mile Race
Race 2 in the Steve Jones Mile Series and the weather was perfect for a lung-busting run around the lake. The race attracted some international-class athletes but don’t let that put you off from entering. There’s one race left in the series on July 20th and it would be awesome if we could get more club members running. No need to worry about whether you think you’re quick or slow.
Featuring Top Athletes
When we heard that international athletes Ieuan Thomas, James Thie and Charlotte Arter were running, we made sure we fielded our best.
PB’s Are Made of This
Whilst Huw is running the race of his life to get a new mile PB, the guy behind him in the first pic (not Laughing Boy Stephen Williams!) looks like he’s out for a leisurely jog!
Timing Point?
If looking at your watch whilst running a mile race is good enough for the professionals, it’s good enough for Charlotte Arter!
Sospan 10k
Sian McGoldrick and Andrew Meadows were flying the flag for the Green Army at the Sospan 10k, a “beautiful, fast and traffic free run on the scenic Millennium Costal Path”.
Giant’s Head Hill Race
Sam was originally meant to be the running the Giant’s Head Marathon on Saturday but conditions meant a high pollen count and difficulty in breathing but fortunately Sam was able to drop down to the 7-mile Hill Race and still claim her giant phallus-themed bling and a ‘Nifty Nanas’ buff.
parkrun
There were a number of PBs to report at parkrun this morning with Sam Lewis Jones running an amazing 17:06 whilst pushing a pushchair(!), Sian Jones finished in 21:28, Stephen Dallow in 22:!1, Stephen Price in 22:58, Peter Hire in 23:58, Brigitte Heasley in 27:45 and Sian Steadman in 29:48.
parkrun Tourists
Two members of Team Jolly were in Aberdare checking out the new course which is 3 laps around a lake with some ups and downs.
Meanwhile, Lydia Cawsey was checking out the trails of the Forest of Dean parkrun.
Welsh Athletics Junior Track & Field Championships
Tom Webb, one of our Green Army Junior Athletes, headed to the track at Newport Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the Welsh Athletics Junior Track & Field Championships. In a competitive 1500m field, Tom finished in an astonishing 04:56! What a performance!
Swansea Half Marathon
The Green Army braved the heat for the Swansea Half Marathon and despite starting at 9am, it was still really warm out there. There were some great runs and some PBs to report including Tony Lewis and Kim Price.
And well done to Teresa Davies for dipping under 2 hours.
3rd FV45
Congratulations to Nicola Jukes for winning 3rd in her age category and running under 01:30.

Iron Trail 5
Don’t forget, next week sees the return of Milo’s infamous Iron Trail 5 race. The weather is looking perfect so you may not need your trail shoes. Would be great to get as many members as possible racing and supporting the North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation charity. There’ll be cake afterwards! More info here.
