Vests on Tour

Caroline and Mike Matthews have been sunning it in the Dominican Republic and took their vests along for the ride so that they could get a 3.7 mile run along the beach for Matt Campbell #FinishForMatt.

Couch to 5K 2018 Programme

We had an amazing turnout for the first session of the C25K 2018 programme with approximately 150 budding new runners taking that big first step. As in previous programmes we had a number of club members volunteering their team in order to help make the programme a success.

Feedback

I just want to thank you for the encouragement this evening, I was so nervous at starting. I finally ran and it felt great and a bonus I met new people along the way. Thank you!

I did it last year and it felt so good to be back again. For anyone with any doubts, believe me you can and will do it. The encouragement is amazing and I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. Never give up.

Enjoyed my first session tonight. Great team spirit between everyone.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! It was AMAZING! Met new people & did more that I thought I could! See you Wednesday.

GLCL 2018 Series Road Race: Parc Bryn Bach

Despite the cold and wet conditions, we had a stellar turnout from the Green Army both in terms of those running and those marshalling and supporting. There were some first time GLCL Road Series runners amongst them including Seaton Stephens and Alun Gray. It was also Alun’s first time in a Green Vest. Other first timers including Leigh-Anne Vowles, Ros Jones, Cath Cross, Adrian Markey and Peter Jackson.

Results

The season couldn’t have started any better with the Men’s and Women’s A teams finishing first in the table AND also the Men’s and Women’s B & C teams also finishing first in their table! With well over a quarter of the total runners wearing green at this fixture we need to make sure that we continue to turn out in force at the other fixtures.

Where’s Jolly?

Where’s Jolly is back this week and if he had angled the photo right he may have captured me in it! I didn’t realise I had a stalker!

Milo’s Gentle Trail Run

As a change for Thursday night training, Milo organised a slightly muddy trail run starting just outside Brynmawr. The route followed part of the Iron Trail 5 race which is taking part in June so was good training.

parkrun

With races over the Bank Holiday weekend, there were only two PBs to report with Daniel Evans finishing in 19:25 and Ian Line in 21:45.

parkrun Tourists

With Manon competing at Hereford Athletics Track, Delphine and Andrew took the opportunity to participate in a bit of parkrun Tourism.

Red Kite Challenge

Lauren Cooper was in Devil’s Bridge for the tough Red Kite Challenge Trail Half Marathon. Even though it was one of the hardest races she’s done she still managed to get 2nd in the Welsh Championships!

British University Champs Sprint Triathlon

Harry Davies was competing in the Blue and Gold colours of Bath in the British University Champs Sprint Triathlon but he did manage to get a photo in the Forza!

Damian Williams’ Budgie Smuggler Fun Run The Mill Race

Damian Williams, Helen Williams, Kim Price, Marcus Smith, Rhianydd Evans and Melissa Pearce were in Talgarth for the 10-mile Mill Race and it looked like a stunning course. Helen Williams had a great run finishing 3rd female and our Chief finished 3rd overall!

My partner-in-crime Nigel Pearce was on hand to capture some photos of the race a couple of corkers of the Chief.

“That’s those bloody go-faster racing shorts you sold us all! About time you suffered like the rest of us!” – Darren Swift

After not racing for a while due to injury, the Chief clearly needs to up his paparazzi avoidance game!

Cardiff 5K – Race for Victory

You can rely on the Green Army when it comes to turning up to a race en masse with over 50 members competing. And to top off a great race, 5 members came away with Welsh Championship Medals in different age categories. Cyril Williams took away a bronze as did Sam Jackson, Rachel Lewis took away a silver as did Beth Jones and Stephen Williams had a gold along with a bottle of champagne which he slept with.

“Must have been good night, just woke up still in me running gear in bed [along with my] GOLD Welsh Athletics Medal and Bottle of Champagne”.

There were a number of new PBs including Rachel Lewis and Sharon Newell and it was also the first race for brand new members Sally-Ann Morgan & Ruth Yandle.

Tonmawr Hilly 5

Peter Hire, Lydia Cawsey and Lee Wilce travelled to Tonmawr for the Hilly 5. There were hills, there was heat, it was tough!

Milo’s Warriors

Neil Beynon, Sarah Jeremiah, Owen Davies and Taff Palfrey joined Milo for his ‘Only Warriors Need Apply’ 11.5 mile run. The heat only made it tougher but luckily Taff was on hand with his stash of Lucozade.

Chester Half Marathon

A late entry into the Weekly Roundup (thanks to Julie Cashell for pointing it out) was Sharon Woods participating in the Chester Half Marathon with her daughter on April 29th.

Thanks
