Irongirl Austria

Whilst Ironman Mike is competing in Ironman Austria this June, Caroline has signed up to complete the 4.2k Irongirl race. The race can’t be completed alone so you must sign up daughters, sisters or girlfriends. She’ll be completing the race with daughters Cerys and Chloe.

Track Sessions

There was another successful track session on Monday and after a trial of running them fortnightly for six months, we’re now looking to run them every Monday (Sunday races dependent).

Alex’s London Training

Alex Thomas was in London again completing some training for the upcoming London Landmarks Half Marathon in March and she was fortunate to have a stunning morning for it.

Laura Does RED

It’s been a fun week following Laura Hire on her Run Everyday January quest with her having to head out for a close-to-midnight run not once, but twice!

Sub-30 Club

Laura Hire kicked of the Sub Thirty Club on Saturday morning at Parc Bryn Bach parkrun with the aim of motivating each other to push themselves to complete 5k in under 30 minutes. Su Gray and Caroline Matthews snook under the 30 minute barrier along with Andrew Marlog and Harry Jackson was so close finishing in 30:00 dead.

Laura will be continuing her quest to help other club runners to reach their sub-30 targets at next week’s parkrun.

parkrun

There was a VERY rare spotting at PBB parkrun this weekend with Sian Price taking over pushchair duties from Sam.

parkrun Tourists

Sam Lewis Jones (sans buggy) ran Cardiff parkrun (for the first time!) and finished 9th overall in an almost parkrun PB time of 17:20. Considering he was up against the likes of Carwyn Jones from Cardiff AAC and others from Les Croupiers that’s a great time.

Elsewhere, the Swifts and the Williams brothers (Gareth and Steve) were in Merthyr, James Thomas was in Kingsbury, John Evans was in Pontypridd and Lee Griffths was in Penallta

Kim’s Ponsticill Saturday Run

After the success of last Saturday’s Talybont Reservoir run, Kim organised another long Saturday run although she forgot to choose a route that would run past an ultra aid station and had to make do with Pant Stores!

Beyond the Far Side

I took part in the inaugural Beyond the Far Side race on Saturday in Westbury, Wiltshire. The race involved laps of approximately 5.25 miles and featured some incredibly steep and muddy conditions that only got worse throughout the day and became increasingly character building at night. After 27 miles and 5 laps I decided to call it a day although the winner was determined to get the free pair of Hokas and completed 10 laps!

Buff Winter Trail Wales Half Marathon

Sam Standerwick, Sharon Woods and Julie Cashell braved some chilly and snowy conditions on Saturday whilst competing in the Buff Winter Trail Half Marathon.

Craig Yr Allt Fell Race

Kevin Hale was flying the flag for the Green Army at the Craig yr Allt Fell Race on Saturday along with Terry Vaughan running in a Mynydd Du vest. Not sure if the mud on his face is war paint or battle scars from the race.

Cors Caron 10k

Gary Bartram, Andrew Meadows and Nick Gregory travelled to the Cors Caron National Nature Reserve in Tregaron for the damp Cors Caron 10k race.

Sorbrook 10k Challenge

Organised by Griffithstown Harriers, the 10k challenge is a sister race to the Sorbrook Slog. A number of members submitted themselves to the hills and whilst I’m not sure of the results Melissa Pearce did fantastically taking first female vet prize!

Breaking News: Rachel’s Long Sunday Run Doesn’t Include Any ‘Ish’ Miles!

Rachel organised a soggy Domen run on Sunday morning and with 11 miles advertised everyone was expecting at least a couple more. I was shocked when I looked on Strava to see that everyone had recorded a distance of 11 miles! I hope everyone wasn’t feel short changed!

Merthyr Mawr Pudding Race

Due to bad weather the 2017 Merthyr Mawr Pudding Race was postponed until January and Danielle Phillips was representing the club in the race that involves running up the one of the largest sand dunes in Europe. She finished 2nd senior female and scored herself a £50 Run and Become voucher and a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

National Running Show

Marcus, Emily, Alex and Maricel travelled to Birmingham on Sunday for the National Running Show (possibly in Marcus’ cake mobile). The rumour mill was full of stories of beer (non-alcoholic recovery beer), 4-in-a-bed and a vibrating peanut! The rumour mill can be a strange place!
