Welsh Road Relay Championship
Welsh Athletics posted an extensive review of the Welsh Road Relay Championships that took place in Pembrey Country Park and the club got mentions both by club name and individual athletes.
Ruth Powering Towards a 10K PB
Stephen Carter posted a photo of Ruth Butterfield powering towards a 10K PB at Rother Valley last weekend and Richard Sheehy was quick to superimpose Ruth on a screengrab of Indiana Jones running away from a boulder in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I did my own version and then a meme started to form that was fuelled by Stephen Carter.
Weymouth 70.3 Ironman

XC Season Comes Early
XC season came early for a number of members who had a recce run on Thursday evening around the new PBB course. The course has been designed by Clive Cooksey who has done a stellar job in designing and curating the landscape.
parkrun
There were 5 PBs to report at parkrun – Jamie Howells (19:33), Ian Kent (19:50), Nick Webb (21:15), Brian Wiles (21:41) and Taff Palfrey (23:49 – a PB by 4 minutes!). Also, check out the even splits from Gavin Patterson!
parkrun Tourists
There were quite a few tourists this week with James Ashley in Telford, Maricel Jenkins-Belohorska and Lee Griffiths were in Newport, Kelly and Katharine Collins were in Merthyr, Hayley Jackson and the Hamers were in Penallta and Darren and Bobbie Swift were in Burnham.
Run for Lauri
Lee Aherne organised a run on Saturday morning in support of Lauri who sadly lost her daughter Eva last year. The event was well supported by club members and over £250 for LATCH.
Buff 10K Recce
Sian McGoldrick was in the Afan Valley to recce the Buff 10K route in preparation for the race which take place in January.
Berlin Marathon
Michael Cope travelled to Germany this weekend for the Berlin Marathon. Michael finished in 03:05:06 which although wasn’t as good as he had hoped for, is still an outstanding time.
Swansea Bay 10K
It was a fantastic turnout for the Green Army at the Swansea Bay 10K with in excess of 30 runners taking part. Lee Aherne bagged 1st MV50 and Nicola Jukes 1st FV45. There were also numerous PBs to report including:-
- Alex Thomas – 58:49 (First time under 60 minutes)
- Neil Beynon – 44:47
- Andrew Meadows: 46:08
- Sam Jackson – 41:49
- Ruth Davies: 52:54
- Nathan Harper: 54:51 (a whopping 6 and a half minute improvement on last year’s time)
- Marcus Smith – 49:48 (First sub-50 minute 10K)
- Callum Schofield – 44:56 (5 minutes faster than last year)

Forest of Dean Half Marathon
A small contingent of club members were in the Forest of Dean for the Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon. Julie scored a HM PB with a time of 1:36:05 and win 2nd FV35.
Big Dipper 10K
Roger Freeman was representing the Green Army in Upton Bishop for the Big Dipper 10K.
Vests on Tour
Moel Famau, North Wales
Lauren Cooper and her mum Louise climbed Moel Famau in North Wales on Monday.
Malia, Greece
Alex Thomas continues to wear her club vest whilst on holiday what looks like a hot Malia, Greece.
Perranporth, Cornwall
Mike Williams was in a gloomy looking Perranporth, Cornwall on Thursday.
The Week Ahead
The Cardiff Half Marathon is one of the biggest races of the year and a lot of club members will be in attendance, including our honorary member, British marathon record holder Steve Jones.
Great Oaks Yorkley Gallop
If you aren’t running the Cardiff Half Marathon, the Forest of Dean Athletic Club is organising a 6 mile trail race near Lydney. It could be good practice for newcomers to cross country.
