Hayley Jackson Selected to Run for East Wales

The Purple Vest of East Wales. I’m sure we’d all relish the opportunity to compete in one and a number of our club members have worn them in the past including, to name a few, Lauren Cooper, Damian Williams, Rachel Lewis and Nicola Jukes.

Hayley ‘Smiler’ Jackson has been selected to represent East Wales on the track at the Welsh Inter Regional Championships on August 26th in Brecon. She will be competing in the 3,000m event and I’m sure we’ll all be thinking of her when she races.

Well done Hayley and we’ve already got a place reserved for you on the Individual Honours page!

More Information

More information about the event, including a timetable, will be posted on the Welsh Athletics website. You can view the page here.

Sunday Runs

It’s always fantastic to see all the Sunday runs each week and even though I only post a few of them, there are so many going on. Just looking on Strava I can see Alex Thomas and Laura Hire were out training for the Cardiff HM, Helen Williams went on a monster 18 mile run between Cwmbran and Blaenavon and Sam Jackson was out on a hilly (almost) HM.

Manmoel Loop

Claire Sullivan organised a run along the Manmoel Road for a 10-ish mile hilly run. Tony Lewis and Marcus Smith went along for the ride with Margrett Monk opting for the 8 mile option.

Gary’s Marathon Training

Gary Bartram continued his training for the Chester Marathon with a 17-mile run between Brecon and Talybont-on-Usk.

Mike’s Six-Hiller

Mike Williams took a posse out on one of his hilly runs around town. Not pictured is Delphine Jones who did join them for 10 miles. Also not pictured is Darren Swift’s chafing!

Kath’s 14 Miler

Well done to Kath Jervis for heading out there on Sunday for a 14 mile. It doesn’t matter about the pace, that’s a mighty fine distance!

Milo’s Sugar Loaf Beer Sweat-Out

After both having a few beers and a Chinese the night before, this was a good opportunity for myself and Phillip Miles to sweat out our sins. Phil’s knowledge of the area is outstanding and he know’s EVERY single path in the area so not only are you never going to get lost, he can make the route as long or short as you want and as tough as you want too.

Dave’s Triathlon Training

Dave Kempton was out training his team for September’s Newent Triathlon today. How’s his training techniques Mike Matthews?

Great North Run

Exciting times for Laura Hire who received her number for this year’s Great North Run. The race takes place on Sunday 10th September.

Junior parkrun

A great turnout at the Junior parkrun on Sunday with 40 participating including Kaiden Sullivan, who I’m sure is going to be wearing a green vest in the future. Make sure you help promote Junior parkrun so that it continues.
