Mid-Week Trail Run

Photo: Darren Swift

A great benefit of being part of an ever-increasing club is that there are plenty of weekly runs to join in addition to the regular training session. Clive Cooksey took a group of club members and First Strides on a 5 mile trail run around start of the Sirhowy Valley Walk and you can’t run on the trail without encountering a hill or two!

Despite many club members not running or taking it easy due to Rack Raid, it was still a great week for PBs with 10 in total.

Richard Sheedy: 20:22
Darren Kippest: 20:44
Sian Price: 21:32
Neil Beynon: 21:34
Mike Williams: 22:37
Marcus Smith: 23:56
Nathan Harper: 25:53
Sian McGoldrick: 25:57
Alex Thomas: 28:05
Sue Gray: 29:13

New member Lynne Jones also celebrated her 50th parkrun.

Trail de Guerledàn 26K

Lauren Cooper was invited to represent Wales in the Trail de Guerledàn trail race in Brittany, France. It’s the first time in the club’s history that a senior member has represented Wales. The race takes place around Lake Guerledàn and Lauren lived up to her ‘Sooper’ moniker by finishing 1st female in 02:25:17! What an amazing debut!

It’s also worth noting that the top five in the event were British with 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th being Welsh!

Two Races to Look Out For

Two races you need to add to your race calendar are the annual Iron Trail 5 and Cardiac 6 trail races which are both organised by our Head Coach, Milo.

Both off-road events start from the Lamb & Fox Pub in Pwll Du (NP4 9SS) with the courses taking in the Blorenge-Gilwern areas. The courses are held in aid of a very worthy cause and ALL proceeds go to the North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre

2nd Annual Iron Trail 5: Thursday, 29th June @ 7:15PM – £7 entry (on the night)
4th Annual Cardiac 6 Mile Challenge: Thursday, 27th July – £8 entry (on the night)

Prizes for age categories and teams (3 to count). Both races off-road and suitable footwear is advisable.

This year the events have been arranged for the same dates as the next two Aquathons and offer an alternative to training up the park, affording other users the full freedom of the facilities.
