GLCL: Road Race Series: Parc Bryn Bach

  • May 3, 2017

The first GLCL Road Race fixture of the season and the Green Army were out in force with 83 runners competing out of a field of 502.

Held on home turf, the course followed a similar route as the Six Mile Road Race that was held in April and was just shy of 6 miles. It includes a lap of the lake, two laps around the golf course and features a challenging hill climb like you’d get on a long Sunday run organised by Rachel Lewis.

Everyone put in a cracking effort with Lee Aherne romping home to take first place with Sam Lewis Jones not far behind in third position.

Other notable results were:-

  • Lauren Cooper (3rd F1734)
  • Simon Lewis (3rd M5054)
  • Stephen Williams (3rd M5559)
  • Stephen Carter (3rd M4559)
  • Nicola Gething (1st F4549)
  • Neil Lloyd (1st M6064)
  • Rachel Lewis (1st F4044)
  • David Smout (2nd M6569)
  • Jillian Matthews (2nd F6064)
  • Margrett Monk (2nd F6599)
  • and the ever-consistent Michael Lewis (1st M7099)

Many club members were reporting PBs compared to the Six Mile Road Race which just goes to show how well many of the members are improving in particular newer members and those graduating from First Strides. For some, this was their first opportunity to represent the club in a GLCL fixture and thankfully they weren’t scared off by the tough course.

You can view the full results here.

Cross Country Award Ceremony

An award ceremony took place after the race for the GLCL Cross Country 2016/2017 season. Congratulations to the members that won an award and did the club proud during an always-tough but rewarding GLCL cross country season. The full list of awards can be viewed here.
