Weekend Roundup April 22nd – 23rd

Another packed weekend of races with our own Parc Bryn Bach Six Mile Road Race and Virgin London Marathon taking place on the Sunday and the Cribyn Fell Race taking place on the Saturday. There was also a ‘Zombie Race’ in Chepstow that was attended by some members of the club.

Parc Bryn Bach Six Mile Road Race

The annual Parc Bryn Bach Six Mile Road Race in aid of Hospice of the Valleys is well supported by our club members (and First Striders) both in terms of those participating and those that volunteer their time to organise, setup and marshal the race.

Lee Aherne was the first club member across the finish line in 34:08 (2nd place overall) and Lauren Cooper was the first female club member in 39:33 (2nd female overall).

London Marathon

Eight club members made the trip to the capital for the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon. Claire Sullivan was running her first London marathon, and her very first ever marathon, whilst others were returning to attack the course again.

All runners ran superbly and the VLM app allowed us all to track their progress every 5K. Three members finished in under 3 hours – Sam Jones, Damian Williams and Simon Lewis.

Nicola Jukes finished in 3:16:46 – a great time considering she only decided to run a few days before this weekend. Running for Clic Sargent, Julie Cashell finished in 03:36:24 (after escaping the charity pen). Claire finished in 04:16:16 and Ruth Butterfield, coached by Stephen Carter finished in 04:25:14 with Stephen close behind.

Cribyn Fell Race

Andrew Jones (running in a Mynydd Du vest (with PBB shorts!)) competed in the super-tough Cribyn Fell Race which despite being only 5.5 miles had an overall ascent of 960m!
